Important Update About The B2 Pay Schedule

This is an important notice for those on the B2 Pay Schedule (which is most non-nursing Michael Garron Hospital Staff). If you are unsure what schedule you fall under, please contact your union representative or human resources.

As you may have heard, your employer has made a harmful decision to delay your final pay of 2020 by five days, pushing back the December 31, 2020 pay date to January 4, 2021.

We know this may have financial implications for you if you have bills due during that gap, so we filed a grievance on this issue, as well as the compressed pay period in June 2021 and the failure to clearly communicate regarding the implication these changes have on HOOPP, OT, EI and vacation time.

The grievance on the December 31 issue went to arbitration yesterday and while the January 4, 2021 pay date will remain, after 12 hours of negotiations, we were able to secure two options to financially help those who may need it due to the five-day delay. We were able to ensure that the hospital will not ask for any proof, documentation, statements or evidence of any kind to prove financial hardship.

First, if you have banked lieu or vacation time, you will be able to cash out 50% of what you have remaining, up to a maximum of 5 days. If you wish to do that, you must request this to Human Resources by this Friday at 12p.m, December 11, 2020 in person or by emailing schedule@tehn.ca

or

You can request an interest free pay advance (up to $600 for full-time staff, $500 for part-time staff) from MGH which will be deducted on your January 4 and/or January 14 pay. If you wish to do that, you must contact the payroll department in person by 3p.m. on Tuesday, December 15 or by email (schedule@tehn.ca) on or before 5p.m. on Tuesday, December 15.

The remaining grievances will proceed and we will keep you updated as they progress. We are utilizing all of our resources to fight this, including our research, finance and legal teams.

We know you rely on your paycheques being consistent and we will continue to push back against any further changes that your employer tries to make. If you have any questions about any of this information, do not hesitate to reach out to your union representatives or your Member Service Centre at 1-877-672-7348.
