Standing Together: An Important Message from SEIU Healthcare’s President

Sisters and Brothers,

As part of our commitment to openness and transparency, we are informing you of ongoing attempts to get members like you at Michael Garron Hospital to sign certification cards for another union.

There is much at stake – if the union attempting a raid receives enough signatures, it will trigger a vote this fall that could jeopardize the hard-earned benefits you’ve gained with SEIU Healthcare at your side.

Always be careful if you’re asked to sign something, especially if it’s alleged to come from our union. Just like a telemarketer pressuring you over the phone, we’ve heard stories of your colleagues not knowing what they were being asked to sign or even who they were speaking with. That’s not right.

If you’re ever approached and are unclear what you’re being asked to sign, you can always contact your Member Resource Centre at 1-877-672-7348 for more information. You can also reach me directly at president@seiuhealthcare.ca.

This is an unfortunate distraction coming at a time when our members are working on the frontlines of a global pandemic. Worse, it’s being led by a group of individuals who will say or do anything to divide and mislead us with unrealistic promises. It’s a sneaky attempt to undermine your union.

Your salary, benefits and workers’ rights are safe and secure with SEIU Healthcare. As Ontario’s original hospital union, we understand and support you better than anyone else. We will always have your back – don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Now more than ever, it’s important to stand together in solidarity so we can continue to advocate on each other’s behalf, protect workers’ rights and improve the lives of all healthcare workers. Let’s stay focused on what we can accomplish as a team.

I look forward to speaking with you again soon.

Sincerely,

Sharleen Stewart
President, SEIU Healthcare
